The Taj Mahal was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, taking around 22 years and over 20,000 artisans to complete. The marble facade shifts color with the light — pinkish at dawn, white by day, golden under moonlight.

Agra Fort was once the primary residence of Mughal emperors — ironically, Shah Jahan, who built the Taj Mahal, spent his final years imprisoned here by his own son, able only to gaze at his wife's mausoleum from a small window in the Musamman Burj tower.
