Climbing Mount Kinabalu: A Real Account of Three Guys Taking On Malaysia's Highest Peak
This one isn't a city stroll — it's a real record of three guys taking on Malaysia's Mount Kinabalu.

A two-day climb of Mount Kinabalu
Located in Sabah, it’s one of Southeast Asia’s highest peaks, and the Kinabalu Park at its base is where every climber’s journey begins.
Day 1: Arriving at the base, saving up energy
The day before setting off on September 21st, we stayed overnight at the base of Kinabalu Park, getting our strength and gear ready for the long climb ahead.
Day 2: An early start, climbing steadily upward
The next morning we set off at 8:30am, working our way up from the base as the forest and terrain shifted noticeably with elevation, and the toll on our legs grew heavier the higher we climbed. This stretch had its fair share of trouble.
Day 3: A 2am push for the summit sunrise
Day three’s pitch-black 2am start for the summit was the hardest stretch of the whole climb. Cold, dark, and running low on energy, every step took real effort — but it bought us the payoff of a genuinely stunning sunrise from the top.
This climb was anything but smooth — pretty much every possible thing that could go wrong, did — and the three of us ended up agreeing to come back and try for the summit again next year. Rather than a “perfect summit guide,” this is more of an honest first-timer’s account.
The record includes a night at the base, an 8:30am start the next morning and a 2am summit push on day three. Alongside the sunrise, watch the fatigue and equipment issues in the video: those are the parts to prepare for when planning your own climb.
